  • Asheville artist Kenn Kotara masterfully expresses himself on canvas, paper and Mylar, as well as Braille, screens, Polaroids and sculpture. Kenn also creates site specific installations that are contemporary, abstract and grid based, evoking a powerful emotional response for those who view them. As an artist who has drawn both national and international recognition for his talent, Kenn's work has been exhibited and shown in cities throughout the world. His architectural background and Louisiana Southern roots permeate his abstract paintings. He structures the work upon a grid system, then layers it with circulinear shapes and color, resulting in imagery metaphorically connected to the mysteries of the Louisiana bayou.

Freeing the grid from the two-dimensional plane, Kenn creates suspended structures as a way of looking at the world. His three-dimensional pieces form dynamic networks responding to the invisible energies within a space. The unfolding narrative of his work continues to evolve, both two and three-dimensionally. This includes pieces on shaped canvases and works created in various media such as paper, wood, steel, and other materials. The shapes, patterns and colors in Kenn’s works offer a universal appeal and communicate through the abstraction in a language unique to each viewer.

Full of subtle energy and life, his abstractions are profoundly contemplative and reflect Kenn’s own journey of his “inner world” - observing, understanding and responding to the world around him.  He invites viewers of his work to share that journey with him.
